WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE WORKSHOP?
You will shoot, edit and direct a short documentary within the week.
On the workshop you will learn the key skills of documentary film making;
Directing, shooting, editing and researching through practical experience.

How to film and conduct an interview

This workshop is for beginners and aspiring documentary film-makers, a chance to spend some time with two professional film makers with over 20 years worth of experience making documentaries including; character led documentaries, climate and environment films, social unrest and stories from conflict zones around the world
Equipment List
Ideally you will already have a camera that can shoot HD footage and can record and monitor sound. Tripods are useful but not essential. A laptop with either Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro editing software is needed. Students can download trial versions of the recommended editing software for free.
Workshop timetable
Day 01
Everyone introduces themselves
Rod and Ross introduce themselves and their work
Introduction to the programme
Students will be presented a set of themes they can choose to work on
Students decide on their themes to film
Workshop on the different stages of film production and different styles of documentary
Students start shooting their projects
Evening meal at Mama Putts - Kings Road Caribbean (provided).
DAY 02
AM Coffee
Morning Brief and equipment check before shoots
Students go out and begin shooting their themes/films
Meet back at HQ early PM to review initial footage/find out how their stories are building/access is going
DAY 03
Full day shooting for students projects with guidance from tutors
Optional night shooting if required
day 04
Looking at footage/editing day
Pick up shots (if required)
One on one mentoring whilst students edit in preparation for screening
Day 05
Full day editing and exporting projects
Day 06
Private screening of students films (with choice to invite friends) at onsight cinema.
Drinks and debrief; how the course went and what steps to take next with documentary film making
Location
We are lucky enough to have a beautiful sea front studio to conduct the workshop in. Which has a built in cinema as well as editing facilities. In the video below you can see the same location from our last workshop. In the video, students are hard at work cutting their final films before the screening.
